INVOLUNTARY REPOSSESSION
Involuntary repossession is the most liability-heavy service in the recovery industry. An inexperienced agent can turn one assignment into costly repairs, a breach of the peace, or a court battle no client wants.
This is where Dtec excels.
Since 1990, Dtec has handled high-risk recoveries with structure, training, and control. Our hiring process is conducted by senior leadership to ensure qualified candidates are selected for our professional repossession team.
Dtec pays for everything required to properly prepare our agents. This includes CARS National Certification, where agents are trained in repossession case law, the Gramm-Leach-Bliley Act (GLBA), and the Fair Debt Collection Practices Act (FDCPA), along with driver safety training, drug testing, criminal background checks, licensing requirements, and continuing education.
Each agent must pass drug testing and a criminal background check before being submitted for clearance through our repossession insurance provider, RSIG.
New agents are not rushed into involuntary repossessions. Training begins with two weeks alongside our senior repossession agent, followed by an evaluation before moving to the next phase. Once cleared, agents begin with voluntary and impound repossessions for an additional two to three weeks, building confidence, judgment, and field awareness before handling involuntary assignments.
This is paid training. This is hands-on training. This is the Dtec standard.
When the recovery carries real liability, experience matters. Trust the company that has been doing it since 1990, with trained agents, proven processes, and a standard built to protect your collateral from assignment to secure storage.
IN-HOUSE AUTOMOTIVE LOCKSMITH SERVICES
Dtec performs all locksmith work in-house to eliminate delays, reduce liability, and maintain full control of the recovery process.
Third-party locksmith vendors can slow down recoveries, create gaps in accountability, and introduce unnecessary risk. By keeping this function internal, Dtec ensures the process remains consistent, documented, and controlled from start to finish.
Our licensed automotive locksmith holds NASTF credentials, allowing secure access to OEM systems and proper key generation without damaging the vehicle. Controlled entry methods are used to protect the collateral and avoid unnecessary repair costs.
Once access is gained, the process continues without interruption. Keys are produced on site, condition photos and reports are completed, and the vehicle is moved through the recovery process efficiently.
Personal property is one of the most common sources of post-recovery claims. Dtec follows Texas Finance Code 348.407 to ensure all items are properly removed, inventoried, documented, and stored, with clear procedures in place for borrower retrieval.
By keeping locksmith services and personal property handling in-house, Dtec reduces exposure, improves turnaround time, and maintains accountability from recovery through release.
IMPOUND REPOSSESSIONS
Impound recoveries require immediate action. Storage fees continue to accrue daily, including weekends, and delays can quickly increase the total cost tied to a single unit.
Dtec treats all impound recoveries as time sensitive. Our team moves quickly to contact the facility, confirm release requirements, coordinate payment, and secure the vehicle before unnecessary charges continue to build.
Speed is critical, but so is verification. Before coordinating payment, Dtec confirms the condition of the vehicle through photos and a detailed condition report when possible. This step helps determine whether the collateral justifies the fees being charged and prevents overpaying on units that may be severely damaged or compromised.
We handle high volumes of impound recoveries and field visits, allowing us to navigate facility requirements efficiently and keep the process moving without delays.
By combining speed, verification, and proper documentation, Dtec helps protect the client’s collateral, reduce unnecessary expenses, and ensure informed decisions are made before funds are committed.
FIELD COLLATERAL INSPECTION, CONDITION & PHOTO REPORT
Before a lender commits to storage fees, repairs, transport, or release costs, they need clear documentation of the collateral’s actual condition.
Dtec conducts full field inspections at any location, including impound lots, storage yards, repair shops, auctions, dealerships, and private property locations when access is available.
Our agents document the vehicle’s exterior, interior, engine bay, trunk, airbag status, visible damage, missing parts, and overall condition through detailed photos and reporting. If keys are available, we also confirm whether the vehicle starts, runs, and drives.
Every inspection is completed by a TDLR licensed agent. Reports are timestamped and delivered directly to the client, providing reliable documentation before additional expenses are approved.
This service helps lenders make informed decisions, reduce unnecessary costs, verify collateral condition, and protect the value of the account before expenses begin to add up.
SKIP TRACING
Skip tracing is included with every assignment at no additional cost to our clients. When a vehicle is not recovered quickly, Dtec does not allow the assignment to sit idle.
Not every vehicle is found through LPR. When collateral is not appearing on camera scans or is no longer at the listed address, our in-house skip tracing process helps develop the next lead.
Dtec’s skip trace team brings over 50 years of combined experience in locating collateral. Our team reviews available information, verifies leads, checks possible addresses, and supports field recovery with updated location intelligence.
Because skip tracing is handled internally, our office and field teams stay aligned. New information can be reviewed, acted on, and routed quickly without waiting on outside vendors.
You are not just assigning a repossession company. You are placing your collateral with a recovery team that continues working the account until the assignment is resolved.
CLIENT TRACKER RECOVERY
Tracker-based recoveries require more than a location ping. They require speed, discretion, and a team that understands how to act on time-sensitive information without exposing the client’s process.
Dtec has extensive experience working assignments involving client-provided tracking platforms such as Ituran, PassTime, GoldStar, and similar systems used by high-volume dealer groups. When a verified location is provided, our team understands the urgency. These opportunities can disappear quickly if the vehicle moves, the account is tipped off, or the information is mishandled.
Our process is built to move fast while protecting the information behind the recovery. Tracker access and platform details stay controlled internally. Field agents are only provided the location and the information needed to identify and recover the correct vehicle. This keeps sensitive client data protected while allowing the recovery team to respond without delay.
Many tracker assignments are worked within the hour or overnight, depending on location, access, and safety conditions. Once the unit is located, Dtec verifies the collateral, manages the interaction professionally, and secures the asset with the same care used on every recovery.
For dealer groups, this means their tracker investment is backed by a recovery team that knows how to convert verified locations into recovered collateral.
Fast response. Controlled information. Trusted recovery execution.
LPR CAMERA OPERATIONS
Dtec operates one of the most active LPR programs in the Houston market, supported by DRN, the largest LPR database provider in the United States.
As a DRN affiliate, our camera car drivers generate more than 1 million plate scans per month across Houston and surrounding areas. These scans help identify collateral movement, confirm active locations, and create recovery opportunities that would otherwise be missed.
LPR is a powerful tool, but it is only one part of the recovery process. Not every vehicle appears on camera, and not every hit results in a recovery without the right team behind it.
Dtec combines DRN’s nationwide vehicle location intelligence with disciplined local routing, experienced camera car drivers, fast communication, and trained recovery agents who know how to act when a location becomes available.
Dtec continues to expand its camera units and coverage to increase scan volume, improve location opportunities, and support faster recoveries for our clients.
Technology helps locate the asset. Experience gets it recovered.
VOLUNTARY REPOSSESSION
Voluntary repossessions should be handled efficiently and with clear communication to avoid unnecessary delays and added costs.
Dtec makes direct contact with the borrower to coordinate a smooth surrender, confirm the vehicle location, and schedule a pickup that keeps the process moving.
A key part of every voluntary repossession is securing all available keys. Replacement keys and programming can be costly, and recovering them at the time of surrender helps reduce avoidable expenses for our clients.
Our team ensures the vehicle is properly received, documented, and processed, including condition photos and reporting when required.
By maintaining control of the process and focusing on details such as key recovery, Dtec helps reduce costs, protect the collateral, and move the account forward without complications.
